Department for EXperimental PLASTic Surgery

The department for Experimental Plastic Surgery is a part of the Clinics of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery with the Aim to get answer to recent scientific topics and implement these answers into clinical routine. To achieve this goal, the department is structured in several research groups. Daily scientific exchange among each other and with other facilities allows more efficient research leading to regular papers in international high impact journals.

Structure of department

To be more efficient and bring research from basic science into clinical routine, our department is divided into basic, translational and clinical research groups. Weekly lab meetings with members of all groups attending should allow lively exchange of points of view. Several awards and high impact papers are a sign for being on the right way for success.

Regenerative medicine is an exciting interdisciplinary field of basic research and clinical applications focused on repairing, regenerating or replacing damaged cells, tissues or organs. Regenerative medicine combines diverse approaches including stem cell biology, tissue engineering, biomaterials engineering, small bioactive molecules, gene therapy, cell reprogramming, and transplantation techniques. In addition, it also includes various enabling technologies (e.g. nanotechnology) and clinical application areas, with the ultimate goal of improving patient lives.
